Dr. Dexter Phillips

Chief Executive Officer

While Dr. Phillips’ title is Chief Executive Officer, he is far more than a CEO. He is the driver of educational excellence at School of the Nations. Having worked for many years in East Asia and in the US for international schools, Dr. Phillips has been a driving force behind the development of Nations. He has spearheaded so many wonderful initiatives including implementation of cloud-based School Management Systems, encouraging US accreditation, placing great emphasis on teacher Continues Professional Development (CPD).

Dr. Phillips is a wonderful cook and often the staff at Nations are treated to his amazing delicacies.

How did you become a teacher and find your way to Nations?

I was encouraged by my High School Principal to take up teaching as a career. I was one of the founding teachers at Nations, started with the school in 1996.

What makes Nations a unique experience?

 The opportunity to be part of a executive leadership team of the only educational institution that offers education ranging from Nursery – University.

What do you love most about your job?

The opportunity to contribute towards the growth of the organization in several aspects, including students and staff development, accreditations, new courses and programs.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Nations?

A unique organization making an impact in the education space in Guyana.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Ambitious, curious, open-minded.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given, and by whom?

Do for those who cannot help themselves without expecting anything in return. My mother.

If you could interview anyone living or dead, who would it be and why?

Nelson Mandela. For insights into his thoughts about overcoming adversity, never giving up, his unshakable belief in his principles of fairness, justice, and equality.
